Description:

This training is designed to help operators, managers, and board members of small drinking water and wastewater systems establish a foundation for financial stability. Attendees will learn key concepts to ensure their systems are financially sustainable, resilient, and able to meet the challenges of today and tomorrow.

 

The training will cover the following key topics:

·        Building Capacity

     An introduction to the EPA’s three concepts of capacity building - technical, managerial, and financial and how they apply to small systems.

·        Making Sense of Financial Reports

     Understanding and interpreting financial reports is essential for maintaining system stability. This section will break down the fundamentals of the Statement of Financial Position (Balance Sheet), the Statement of Activities (Income Statement), and how to assess the financial health of your system.

·        Asset Management

     Learn the importance of asset management for long-term sustainability. We will discuss how to track and prioritize assets, plan for maintenance and replacement, and ensure your system stays in compliance with regulations.

·        Saving for Reserve

     Discover how to build and maintain a reserve fund, an essential tool for handling emergencies and funding future capital improvements. We’ll discuss strategies for setting savings goals, managing reserve accounts, and ensuring financial security.

By the end of this training, participants will have the tools they need to understand and manage their system's financials, build capacity, and plan for long-term success.
