Date & Time:

The Rate Setting training will be held on the following date and time:

April 8 2:00PM-4:00PM

This training is being held in Pacific Time.

Description:

Often, many small water systems recover their operating costs but are not able to fund reserves and other balance sheet obligations through their customer rates. Water rates should recover the “true costs” of providing the service. Many systems’ governing bodies and management lack basic understanding of how much money needs to be collected from customer rates to recover operating costs and fully fund debt service and reserve account funding. This training will be presented to provide attendees with working knowledge and emphasize tools/resources available to understand how to develop an adequate rate structure to provide the ability to meet short-term and long-term financial obligations. Finally, the workshop will cover the latest interpretations of Prop. 218 procedures and limitations in setting customer rates in California.

Participants will learn:

·        How to determine if a rate adjustment is necessary

·        The four basic types of rate structures

·        How to calculate base and flow rates

·        To calculate base rates according to meter size

·        How to set rates that are compliant with Proposition 218

Financial Basics Series: The recommended audience includes board members, general managers, financial managers and operators.

This training will be hosted online on GoToTraining.
